NCIV Celebrates 50 Years

NCIV marked its 50th Anniversary milestone with a two-year celebration designed to recognize the accomplishments of our first half century and lay a strong foundation of leadership for the next 50 years. The 50th Anniversary provided an exciting opportunity to celebrate the illustrious work of our members and volunteers. The celebration culminated in February 2011 with the 50th Anniversary Gala and 2011 National Meeting in Washington, DC.

The NCIV Network: Shaping History One Handshake at a Time

                   

50th Anniversary Gala

NCIV’s 50th Anniversary Gala was a joyous celebration of the impact of the NCIV network. On this historic occasion, we honored NCIV’s first half century of leadership in citizen diplomacy – the concept that individual citizens have the responsibility to help shape U.S. foreign relations “one handshake at a time” – and celebrate the local and national leaders who will continue to guide the institution for future generations.  The NCIV 50th Anniversary Gala featured the presentation of several special awards, including the NCIV Multigenerational Leadership Awards honoring long-standing volunteers who have supported NCIV through it's first half century and those who will be guiding the network through the next fifty years.

Highlights of the evening included remarks by Senator Richard Lugar and Representative James Moran, two of the primary co-sponsors of the NCIV 50th Anniversary Resolutions in the Senate and House respectively.  The Gala also showcased "A Celebration of World Dance," with performances by several world-renowned dance troupes.  The finale to the evening came in the After Party with Chen Lo and the Lo Frequency, a hip hop sensation that traveled the world with The Rhythm Road:  American Music Abroad sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
