Learn about the World: Host An International Exchange Student

Department of State exchange photoThe U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) invites you to make a difference by hosting an ECA sponsored international high school exchange student this fall. Approximately 2,000 exchange students from over 50 countries, all of whom have undergone an extensive and competitive merit-based selection process, will spend the 2012-13 academic year in communities across the United States, living with American families and learning about and participating in American culture, leadership enhancements, and community service. Students return to their home countries to share their experiences and improve their communities.

Hosting an ECA international exchange student is an enriching experience for the entire family. Give your family a real connection to the world without leaving home. Experience a foreign culture, see our own culture through a new perspective, and create lasting relationships. By sharing your home and heart with an ECA-sponsored student, you will make a difference. What begins as an exchange of kindness, customs, and culture within a family extends throughout a high school and community to touch thousands of lives.

We seek hosts from all over the United States. If you are willing to open yourself to new experiences, to share your life with a fascinating teenager from a foreign land, and if you can provide a student with guidance, support, and a welcoming home, hosting may be just right for you. Be a U.S. citizen diplomat. Expand your world by sharing your home and family with an international student this fall.Ready to host?
