U.S. Summit for Global Citizen Diplomacy
Washington, DC
November 16 – 19, 2010
The U.S. Summit and Initiative for Global Citizen Diplomacy brought together leaders from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors to develop strategies to promote citizen diplomacy and global engagement among the American people. The summit was organized by the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, and NCIV President Sherry Mueller co-chaired the Community-Based Organizations Task Force with Patrick Madden, President & CEO of Sister Cities International, with the task of developing ideas for engaging Americans in citizen diplomacy.
Past Community Summits on Citizen Diplomacy:
Beginning in 2005, NCIV has awarded our community organization members more than $140,000 in seed grants to convene local summits on citizen diplomacy aimed at increasing public awareness of the citizen diplomacy movement, building the capacity of individual community institutions to become more globally engaged, and strengthening cooperation among these organizations.
Here are reports of recent community summits that that show how various NCIV members have organized their events and what they achieved.
