As the national association for its network of organizations and individuals engaged in citizen diplomacy, NCIV provides a variety of services to support members' efforts. These services include:
- Access to grants from the U.S. Department of State and other funding sources;
- Awards that recognize
- Congressional advocacy;
- Leadership development opportunities;
- Member exchange programs to share best practices;
- Member-only Directors & Officers Liability Insurance program underwritten by the Great American Insurance Company;
- Publications, including a monthly newsletter and a national membership directory;
- Representation to the U.S. Department of State; and
- Regional and national meetings, as well as other training programs;
- Seed grants to help our members play a leadership role in convening Community Summits on Citizen Diplomacy.

The NCIV office is located in Washington, DC, and provides services to its members to achieve three overarching goals:
To keep them informed of trends and major issues that have an impact on the field of citizen diplomacy and international exchange;
To develop members' leadership abilities and nonprofit management skills; and
To build members' capacity to help design and organize high quality professional and cultural programs for foreign leaders participating in the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program and other exchanges.
