NCIV Celebrates 50 Years
The National Council for International Visitors (NCIV) is about to mark its 50th anniversary. We will recognize this milestone with a two-year celebration during which we will both commemorate the accomplishments of our first half century and lay a strong foundation of leadership for the next 50 years.
The NCIV Board of Directors and a 50th Anniversary Task Force, chaired by Alan Kumamoto, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the International Visitors Council of Los Angeles, have put together a plan that includes events, communications, and initiatives in Washington, DC and around the country. The celebration was officially launched at NCIV’s National Meeting in February 2010.
NCIV’s 92 community member organizations throughout the United States provide professional programs, cultural activities, and home visits for foreign leaders participating in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and other international exchange programs. We estimate that approximately 80,000 volunteers are involved in NCIV member programs each year.
We are excited to take this opportunity to celebrate the illustrious work our members and volunteers have done to foster mutual understanding between the United States and the rest of the world. This half century of leadership in citizen diplomacy lays a strong foundation for future pursuits. In that regard, the 50th Anniversary also will provide a launching pad to explore the ways NCIV and the NCIV Network can continue to grow and evolve in the decades ahead.
