*********
The National Council for International Visitors (NCIV) is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote excellence in
citizen diplomacy, the idea that the individual citizen has the
right—even the responsibility— to help shape U.S. foreign
relations, as our members phrase it, “one handshake at a time.”
NCIV represents and provides services for a national network of
independent program agencies and community-based organizations involved
in the implementation of international exchange programs.
NCIV interns are invited to work for one academic term: fall, spring,
or summer. The internship position takes on particular significance
in an office of eight full-time staff members and interns are given
a balance of short- and long-term projects. Interns are assigned
tasks in outreach, advocacy, publications, resources, conferences,
design, and other areas, depending on their backgrounds, skills,
and interests. They report to the organization President and work
with other members of the NCIV staff on special programs, as well
as daily administrative functions. They are often invited to attend
special educational and cultural events outside of the office.
Internship starting and ending dates are flexible based on the
intern’s academic calendar. Full-time and part-time internship
opportunities are available (part-time interns are strongly encouraged
to work at least three full days per week). Full-time interns receive
a $2,000 stipend (prorated for part-time interns). Additionally,
the president will complete forms or evaluations necessary for the
intern to receive academic credit for the internship. The internship
position is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens (NCIV cannot
help non-U.S. citizens obtain visas).
