International Understanding Through Citizen Diplomacy
February 15-18, 2006
L’Enfant Plaza Hotel
Washington, DC
The National Council for International Visitors held its National Meeting on February 15-18, 2006 in Washington, DC. This event was funded in large part through NCIV’s cooperative agreement with the Office of International Visitors, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State.
The event attracted over 550 people representing community organizations from around the county, program agencies in Washington, DC, and the U.S. Department of State's Office of International Visitors and Office of Language Services, and other NCIV members and special guests. The theme of the meeting was International Understanding through Citizen Diplomacy and captured the essence of the work of the NCIV Network – promoting excellence in citizen diplomacy, mutual understanding through person-to-person exchanges and working on the grassroots, community level to help implement U.S. foreign policy objectives.
