2005 Northeast Regional Meeting

The NCIV Northeast Regional Meeting took place in Cincinnati, Ohio, August 4-6, and was primarily funded through NCIV's Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Department of State, Office of International Visitors. The meeting was hosted locally by the International Visitors Council of Greater Cincinnati and was vigorously supported by many local individuals and organizations. This three-day gathering brought together 10 officials from the U.S. Department of State, 14 program officers from the national program agencies in Washington, 55 representatives from 23 CIVs, and provided them with a variety of training opportunities to interact, share advice and concerns, learn about important policy questions, and enjoy the wonderful camaraderie that develops when working together to promote citizen diplomacy. Including plenary speakers and panelists, 103 people were registered for the meeting.

All of the participants plus approximately 85 guests from Cincinnati enjoyed a private reception in the new National Underground Railroad Freedom Center which included the opportunity to spend time in the exhibits. At this reception it was announced that the NCIV Educator of the Year Award would henceforth be known as the Phyllis Layton Perry Educator of the Year Award. The remarks of the excellent speakers at Friday's Plenary Luncheon and Saturday's Plenary Breakfast are posted below.

Many thanks to the following for their generous support of the Regional Meeting:

Fifth Third Bank
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
Procter & Gamble Company
